Kataztrophik: A Case of Imperfection: Noobs at Heart Episode 1

So as a suggestion from Ashizero25, I am creating a new series where instead of showing the normal impressive scores and gameplay, I flip the script and show you the opposite end of that spectrum, one of the mediocre games every player is bound to have from time to time. I’ve always been a believer that you learn more from mistakes, so I pack as many fails into one game as all those flawless games you’ll see on the internet. LOL Here I talk about getting discouraged in the game, and a good mindset to have to play better and get more enjoyment while playing MW2. I plan to go more in-depth with actual gameplay commentary in future episodes, with future topics including spawn points, countering enemy tactics, etc.

If you enjoyed this video, please comment, rate, and subscribe! Thanks!

Hahahah…never thought I’ll see a game like this from you! It looks like one of my usual games! But on some serious shyt, your videos and tips have been helping me out bro! And you’re right, can’t get discouraged when your constantly dying, (like me) you gotta have fun with it. I see you gettin your sniping game up playa!! Haha…keep it coming bro, good looking out for the noobs!!

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it! I put these videos out in an attempt to help other players, who struggle to maintain a positive kd. I’ll actually talk more in depth about what I think the secret to a good kd is in an upcoming video. But yeah, mw2 can be pretty frustrating at times, so just focus on having fun, learning from your mistakes, and pwning face from time to time. I like to just mess around whenever I get discouraged, so I’ll run around with a riot shield or I’ll start singing ingame just to lighten things up. And my singing is pretty horrible, but it entertains me, so I do it despite my team’s strong objections lol. Variety keeps this game fun, so don’t be afraid to stray from the norm.

    Nice “mere mortal” vid.

What percentage of your kills are headshots, generally? Does it vary greatly from weapon to weapon? I am a pretty solid 10% across ARs and snipers, which makes it a pain in the ass to prestige vis-a-vis unlocking the camos for my weapons of choice.

  4. aPhaiLur says:

Hell yes Kata! This is what I’ve been waiting for yay man! And you even gave me a shout out in the video! Hahaha I feel so special lol. I can’t remember if I told you but this is actually Ashi man. Good video, I’ve actually been having one of those damn ruts again myself, I think I’ll change some things up today. All day yesterday I wasn’t having very good games. Awesome video bro and I hope to see more in the future. ;)

  5. kataztrophik says:

@JR, yeah I’m roughly about that percentage as well, I just finished 2500 kills with the m4 and I’m like 10 headshots shy of 250 headshots…I don’t really go for headshots, I go for center of mass shots, and I get headshots if people dropshot or just plain luck from recoil…lol

@aPhaiLur, yeah I put 2 and 2 together and figured it out lol. I figured I’d call you ashizero instead of a failure because people may not realize that it’s your name, and instead I’m just calling you a failure lol. Yeah I’ve had some rough patches in the last couple of days too…I might have to change it up and play some FFA or something.

  6. aPhaiLur says:

Yeah man. I dunno what it is but it seems like the last 2 days or so I’m always getting shot from the side or the back. Like uggghhhhhh

  7. kataztrophik says:

Yeah it’ll happen…I was messing around trying to get a nuke using shotgun only and it was starting to really annoy me cuz every time I get to 5 or 6 kills I get shot from the back or something…just hang in there, I like to just buckle down and play a good defensive game and then slowly start getting more aggressive…

  8. gravesendunltd says:

    Great idea man. Thumbs up!

It’s like these videos run the danger of setting an unhealthy example of what “good” is. Almost like the fashion industry. If a bad player, or even avarage player, has the best game they have ever played but they just saw two videos of kids getting two nukes a game it sometimes makes it feel like your best is never good enough. Even when you are doing great or improving.

What you don’t see in the two nukes a game video is the hours of learning, perfecting, and adapting that it took to get there.

Good job for supporting and looking out for the majority :)

“I like to just buckle down and play a good defensive game and then slowly start getting more aggressive…”

That’s probably the best advice out there. Start out really defensive so you learn what good cover is and how to take advantage of your environment. I had lots of trouble starting this game so I set up challenges to myself like go rounds without using sprint. Slowing things down like that really helped me to focus and learn to pay more attention.
Then slowly start getting more aggressive but don’t forget the basics of what you learned about objects. Even if you go full out marathon, run and gun style you will use cover to get from spot to spot. The basics don’t change if you’re camping or rushing just the time you have to react to each situation.

kataztrophik, i have a friend who has a really negative mindset about this game. We started about the same skill level, but then, i got really good (thanks to this site), and he didn’t get really good. Last time he came over, he ragequit like three times. any tips on how to improve his attitude?

Thanks guys, I’m really happy that you guys liked the video. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about putting it out because I expected a torrent of “you’re a noob” comments to come flying in, LOL. I have no problem telling people that I don’t play well all the time, and that I don’t consider myself to be all that good at the game. There’s still a lot of areas that I need to improve in myself.

@frat57, to be honest that is a really hard question. Since it’s another person, you can’t tell him how he should feel and react to this game. I always like to play different setups and playstyles when I feel frustrated. I’ll run around and knife people or I’ll pick up a riot shield and just act like an idiot. Encourage him to not take the game so seriously, like if he gets upset over dying a lot. Just tell him “hey, lets run around like assholes with shotguns” Whatever you think will help him feel better. It only takes one good game for him to feel better, but the opposite is also true. The longer he stays frustrated at the game, and the more tense and stressed he makes himself, the worse he will play. His reaction speed and reflexes suffer due to it, and it will only snowball. Hell, even try a private match where you guys both go at it…and laugh at yourselves over the stupid ways you died. If anything have him watch my video and let him laugh at me running around with a sniper rifle in terminal and getting killed like left and right. The Booster Justice and Sandy Ravage clips also, they’re hilarious. Encourage him to find different ways to have fun in the game, and he’ll notice that he’ll start playing better too, when he isnt so fixated on his KD. Everybody’s different though, but I hope this helps.

Thanks for making this video! I started playing fps about two weeks ago, and I still stink. This would actually be a pretty decent game for me – my KD is still negative, and I’ve never gotten over 25 kills in a game. It gets pretty frustrating, but your videos are definitely helping, so thanks!
